- I know propably everyone wants to know that: Why are you travelling by bike?
Yes, a lot people ask me that. I could take a train, could take a plane… so why the bicycle? I have been cycling for about ten years right now. And then I was in the army for two years and I was very depressed and down. But I had that Japanese friend who cycled from Japan to Singapore and then from Singapore all the way to Turkey. And he was only 19! And that inspired me to do it. I thought: Why not? Because I’m a cyclist myself and I could do something different. So I decided to go for a bicycle tour.
Because you only live once and what could be worst at your death bed only realized you hadn’t lived the life you always wanted. If I don’t do this now, there will never be a chance to do it in the future. I’m serious.

- Where did you start?
I startet from London. And then I make my way down to China or Singapore. I’ve been to London, Amsterdam, Düsseldorf, Mainz, Cologne,… oh I can’t remember all those places! And now I’m here in Würzburg.
- What distances do you cover each day? How many kilometers?
It depends. It could be from 70 to 100. Or sometimes less than 50 a day. It depends on the weather, it depends on my health condition and accomondation as well.
- How many bags do you carry along?
- Seven bags? And how do you handle it – on your bike?
There are different racks on it and I stick them on the bicycle. The total weight of the equipement it about 30 kg. The bicycle is 17 kg. So totally I carry around 47 kg.
- Ok that’s hard I guess!
(laughs) Yes, it’s hard!
- How do you like Würzburg?
Oh, it’s my second day here. Last night I just checked in. But right now it is raining… so I’m gonna take my time.
- Do you meet other cyclists who are travelling long distances?
Hard core long distance… maybe one or two. There are a few cyclists that are cycling within Germany. But not outside Germany or that far.
- When you go cycling trough a country, or even all over the world… what is the difference to travelling by plane? Do you see the places with different eyes?
Yes. I think you can see the changes. I started from London and things start to chance slowly. I can see the changing landscape especially on the road. There are big cities I cycle across, or seas, I cycle across farms, I cycle across the river and the mountains, and suddenly there’s no mountain… it’s kind of special, yes. It’s better than taking a plane. You see the pictures.
- When do you expect to arrive in Singapore?
Maybe next year about March or April. I startet three weeks ago in London, 18. June.
- Kai, it’s really great what you’re doing. Have a safe journey! ✌
